Friends of nFold,

Welcome to the nFold Software Minute. Focusing on the lighter side of software matters for managers, this newsletter is released every few weeks and should not take more than a minute to read. If you find it amusing, please share it with your friends and colleagues. To subscribe to the newsletter contact subs@nfold.com.

SOFTWARE THEMES AND MEMES

'I've always liked Douglas R. Hofstadter's idea of a 'meme' as the smallest unit of an idea, just like 'atoms' are the smallest particles of matter (well, until they discovered protons and neutrons and such). He also postulates that memes travel. And talks about an idea who's time has come. But what does this have to do with software? Well, here's a new meme travelling over the ether...

Allow me to introduce to you (drumroll - Ta-Ra) a 'Software Showcase' meme. Imagine joining your peers over breakfast at a shoot-out between two competing software vendors on the same theme; no blood (strictly ketchup)? And then, how about having a chance to express your opinion and discuss any software issues you are experiencing? Plus, you can win a prize before strolling past some exhibit tables (on the same theme) before returning to the office in time for late morning tea (and biscuits, I trust).

If this sounds like your idea of fun, please diarise the following dates for the 'nFold Software Showcase' events this year (2006 for all you late-comers).
