Should the tender system be re-examined following PPE corruption?
Corruption allegations linked to the procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) have once again put a spotlight on the country’s tender system.
According to Auditor General Kimi Makwetu, politically connected individuals and businesses were awarded lucrative deals amounting to billions of rands.
Signs of overpricing and unfair processes are just some of the activities that have contributed to corruption. Experts are now questioning whether the tender system is viable and whether government should re-consider using it for procuring goods and services.To discuss this further, we’re joined by Larissa Cornelius, Chairperson of the Association of Proposal Management Professionals South Africa.
